Reviews » GoDaddy
GoDaddy is a world-wide hosting service based in the USA; it has been around since 1999 and is now the worlds #1 ICANN-accredited domain name registrar.
I have been using GoDaddy to host my website for well over one year now, I also bought a domain with them, I bought an 'economy' plan for $2.80 per month, and I get: 5GB Space, 250GB Bandwidth, 500 E-mail accounts and 10 MySQL databases!
Other services they offer are: Domain Registration, Linux + Windows Hosting, VPS, Dedicated Servers, Resellers and much more. All for an affordable price.
During my time at GoDaddy I have come across very few situations where something has gone wrong or didn't work. At the beginning I could not log into my account via FTP, however I e-mailed them and it was resolved within 24-48 hours.
My website has been up 99% of the time since I have bought the account, very rarely is there downtime from any service.
GoDaddy has its own control panel, I consider this a downside as it doesn't have as many features as cPanel or DirectAdmin. Nevertheless it has what you need: database support, FTP client, Web Stats and more. The control panel has improved a great deal since I have been using GoDaddy, and looks as though it will keep improving.
The email control panel is 'Web-Based Email', it's really good quality. They used to have a selection of about 3 email panels to choose from, I used SquirrelMail. 'Web-Based Email' also has 'Light Web-Based Email' which is a high performance version; a lovely add-on.
GoDaddy do a lot of offers, if you catch one at the right time you may be in for a really good bargain. I haven't gotten one myself but there is always 1+ offers available.
Choosing the cheapest Linux plan will not get you: Python, Ruby on Rails, Java or Perl/Fastcgi, however PHP is standard. There is a great quality increase (over 2x) when getting the deluxe plan (2nd one) which is 2x the price ($6.99).
As GoDaddy is such a large company; not just a single person running his own service, with such a large company you may feel that they do not care for you as much as other hosts. Think again, they provide e-mail and 24/7 phone support from qualified staff, this is great for individuals and businesses.
GoDaddy are very experienced and know a great deal about what they are selling and their service. This and the fact that they are reliable is why I chose to be hosted by them.
